Footage Shows Man Sucker Punches NYPD Officer making Arrest in Bronx

A man in a surgical mask was seen violently punching a police officer in the head while his partner was conducting a separate arrest in the Bronx on Tuesday (April 7).

31-year-old Nelson Jimenez seemed to be unaffiliated with the man being arrested for a robbery committed in February when he walked behind the officer’s partner and sucker-punched him in the head, and then ran away.

He was later apprehended and charged with assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct and obstructing government administration, amid other charges.

New York Police Commissioner Dermot Shea commented on the incident, stating, “This is premeditated assault on a uniformed police officer, your police officer. Disturbing on many levels, what he should now receive is a conviction for a Class D felony and a lengthy sentence in state prison. Period.”
